Important results from the project

FRAMTIDSGATAN has developed strategies and principles for rapid street transformation - models for simple street projects, built prototypes on site in Stockholm and Umeå, as well as evaluated these and produced a design guide. ´Design guide for fast streets´ gathers new knowledge and innovation and aims to develop and streamline municipal and national street planning, its manuals and regulations. All this has been carried out in close cooperation between all project parties.

Expected long term effects

The project has led to three rebuilt streets. In Umeå Storgatan who will receive a permanent transformation. I Stockholm Roslagsgatan and Helsingforsgatan which will receive a permanent transformation. Design guide for fast streets comes together with Design guide for smart streets is successively creating a new Swedish street standard. Gävle has developed a plan for smart streets in the city center and Sundbyberg has started a similar plan.

Approach and implementation

FRAMTIDSGATAN was carried out in close dialogue with project parties and citizens. The dialogue with citizens was carried out with workshops, walking tours and with Placetoplan. The dialogue with the project parties took place through frequent work meetings/workshops to produce the designs. The schedule was kept in Umeå, slightly delayed in Stockholm and canceled in Gothenburg. This was due to internal organizational changes at the municipality. Organizational continuity is a success factor.
