Important results from the project
The project demonstrates the unique opportunities for enhanced competitiveness that arise when product and function development benefits from the integration of AM into the value chain. In addition to the possibilities, the project also provides suggestions for future workflows that are made possible by industrialized AM. The project formulated a strategy for Swedish knowledge within AM and a plan for how (and where) the metal industry needs to develop skills and / or technical ability to exploit the possibilities of AM and avoid pitfalls.
Expected long term effects
The project identified the need for new knowledge and technical skills that is necessary for the metal industry to be able to take advantage of opportunities, and to avoid pitfalls, that arise with the industrialization of additive manufacturing. This resulted in a strategy for Swedish knowledge (within AM) which is based on that the introduction of AM will fundamentally change design, construction and production. The effect is that Swedish industry can prepare to use the disruptive transformation that AM brings to its advantage and thereby increase its competitiveness.
Approach and implementation
The implementation was based on analyzes of transport scenarios to identify common denominators in vehicles from participating industries. Since the project goal was to make visible the opportunities that arise when taking advantage of AM, a future scenario where AM has been industrialized and many of today´s constraints has been overcome was assumed. Analysis of components, value chains and workflows gave a concrete need for necessary knowledge and possible workflows that occur with AM.
