Status Completed

Important results from the project

Through its two pilot projects, Future City Flow has shown that the solution is mature for implementation on a global market. The two pilot projects are fully operational and have been implemented without major challenges. Although quantitative effects have not been determined, both international project parties have expressed greater insight into their inflow and infiltration problems after the project´s end. Both wish to implement the operational and strategic opportunities that Future City Flow has identified.

Expected long term effects

An expected effect for both project partners is to reduce their environmental impact in the long term as a result of fewer discharges into the receiving waters with higher quality bathing water as a result. - Through reliable forecasts and optimized management, the City of Gold Coast will avoid flooding and be able to quickly provide information to the public about bathing water quality. - By mapping how different flow components affect different parts of the City of Tauranga, better decision-making is obtained to invest smarter with the goal of reducing investment needs for the future.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in three work packages where two have been responsible for implementing different parts of Future City Flow. A central part has been to locally adapt key metrics, KPIs and valuation figures, and together with the pilot parties to validate the relevance of contributing areas as main key figures for comparison of short- and long-term measures in both countries.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
