Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to explore how life in two neighborhoods with different conditions in different parts of Malmö will look in 2040 and how it affects mobility systems and urban planning. The goal is to shape future scenarios that help us challenge Today´s norms around quality of everyday life, make visible alternative patterns of movement and give suggestions on how existing places and surfaces can be reprogrammed. The result is packaged as a guided tour to the year 2040.

Expected effects and result

By challenging today´s unlimited access to products and services, the project creates attitude change and offers suggestions for solutions and alternative processes that can form the basis of new ideas about quality of everyday life. By simultaneously questioning the very basis for transporting oneself, we can concretize the needs and increase the ability of urban planners to design relevant urban spaces and functions.

Planned approach and implementation

The final product is based on 3 processes: 1) residents of the two neighborhoods get to formulate future visions, based on the driving forces that influence how they want to live in the future. 2) Organizations within mobility are involved, to create scenarios and concrete objects that can exist and function within the residents´ visions of the future. 3) students participate in a one-day design sprint focusing on the site and the systems needed to realize these visions.
