Important results from the project
Objectives of the project were partly accomplished. A few objectives were not met. The textured surface by grinding and the final methodology for surface evaluation, which is going hand in hand. The team is putting effort and resources to continue research in these subjects after the end of the project.
Expected long term effects
Laser texturing end-up as a success story of the project and is considered by the industry as a promising development towards industrial surface functionalization. The work on surface functionalization will be continued with some of the partners from the FriText consortium. Proper and controlled surface functionalization is in high demand, especially for electrification purposes, contributing to circularity and net zero emission.
Approach and implementation
The project contained five work packages with defined working goals for each of them. The pandemic disturbed the process significantly. The situation put industrial partners on hold limiting access to their resources. The prioritisation of the electrification approach took over. The FriText project has gotten a lower priority, as from the start the result should be applied to the ICE components. Nevertheless, it was decided to focus on different applications, which led to the success story.
