Important results from the project
Within the framework of InfraSweden2030, VA has conducted a feasibility study with the aim of identifying methods that can be used to attract creative engineers to the transport infrastructure sector and build the foundation for the development of the Young INFRA Academy. The report presents our conclusions on the opportunities, collaborations with existing stakeholders, and how partnerships can be developed with upper secondary schools. In addition, it is proposed that a pilot project is run to test the methods, which would then form the basis for the further development of the YIA.
Expected long term effects
The conclusions of the study show that there are good opportunities for collaborations with schools in order to increase interest in transport infrastructure among young people. Both teenagers and teachers are interested in working with industry and authorities within the framework of work undertaken at school. A number of other stakeholders have developed models and networks for collaboration that could be utilised. This approach has the potential to result in an increase in young people´s interest in the subject. The model would be tested in the proposed pilot project.
Approach and implementation
The feasibility study was conducted during January-August 2016 and consisted of: focus groups with upper secondary school pupils interviews and reference group meetings with key people in the infrastructure sector literature studies mapping of stakeholders in the interface between schools / academia / industry analysis and conclusions writing of the report, including recommendations a proposed project plan for a pilot VA´s assessment is that the feasibility study provides the information needed to and propose collaborative models that can be tested in a pilot project.
