Important results from the project

The project has through a state of the art coupled model with an aerodynamic 3D solver built on the votex model CASTOR validated the turbine’s assumed dimensions for full scale, e.g. the capacity factor and the appearing loads. A preliminary validated design of a mooring system has been generated and hydrodynamic performance has been assessed according to plan. Blade and strut loads har been calculcated as data for more detailed design and dimensioning.

Expected long term effects

Several technical risks have been reduced resulting in re-design with regard to hydrodynamic aspects. The Project has quantified mechanically absorbed power which has reduced the risk of later having to increase the size of the rotor. A preliminary design of a mooring system has been made which resulted in increased weight compared to what was initially assumed. This needs to be optimized or re-designed. The project has received positive response form partners who have invested own resources.

Approach and implementation

The Project’s need for documentation has been smaller than anticipated and the infrastructure believed to be needed to perform the project also turned out to be smaller than anticipated. Software for the internal development work was acquired free of charge via a known supplier of cAD software. Documentation has to a large degree been generated in the form of presentations being conscious of the limited budget. The Project has not reached all the way with regards to dimensioning but has generated more results than anticipated in terms of load calculations.
