FLASH-cancer therapy, semiconductor detector

Reference number
Coordinator Scandidos AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration November 2022 - August 2023
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme Electronic Components and Systems:

Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** Evaluation of a cubic detector to measure the treatment beam in radiation therapy of cancer with the new technology Flash. The detector did not meet expectations. Theoretical study with Monte Carlo technology to understand the limitations of the detector. Unfortunately, the project was too extensive to be completed within the framework of the time available. The results that emerged were not sufficient to understand the reason for the practical results.

Expected long term effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The result was that the detector system cannot be used, in its current form, for quality assurance of Flash therapy with dose rates above 200mGy/pulse.

Approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** In order to carry out the tests, special electronics was requiredso that significantly higher currents/charges could be detected correctly. For the theoretical studies it was required to set up a complete environment for Gean-4 calculations and control that this worked. As well as this, it was required to study which calculation modules were suitable for the assignment. All this before the actual work began. If you had been able to start directly without first setting up the entire environment for calculation, we might have reached objective.
