Important results from the project

The project has created a working prototype of a digital tool that connects consumers and professional fishermen in Gothenburg. The tool, a web-based application, has been run on a small scale and presented results which generates a greatly streamlined local distribution system, with reduced costs and reduced resource wastage. The digital tool has been developed together with stake holders who have subsequently been linked to the project together with representatives from the business community and research institutes.

Expected long term effects

The project has successfully created a competitive local distribution chain for fresh fish in Gothenburg. The distribution chain utilizes existing infrastructure and brings consumers and producers together with modern technology. This has resulted in increased availability of locally produced fish for financially weaker segments of society, increased profits for producers, reduced the need for transportation and processing, and resulted in a more efficient use of natural resources. At the end of the project, the outcome is scalable and reproducible.

Approach and implementation

With the help of, among others, RISE and Vinnova, the project gained initial contacts in the business community, public sector as well as stake holders. Producer organizations and regional fisheries promotion initiatives contributed to the coordination of fishermen. In consultation with these actors, the digital solution was developed. In the end of 2019, the tool was tested with the help of stake holders associated with the project. After a positive outcome, a strategy for scaling the project was drawn up and a consortium of several different partner organizations was formed.
