Important results from the project
The project has been carried out in line with the joint project plan (Appendix to the project Vinnova application). In collaboration with Roll-Royce, the parties have developed and demonstrated overheating functions through the integration of FOSS with the control unit for a modern turbofan engine. The integrated system has been tested in the laboratory with good results. Mapping of engine applications where Saabs FOSS can be used has been studied by the parties and summarized in a technical roadmap.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in closer cooperation between the parties. During the phases of the project we have been able to identify several potential future collaborations and opportunities. The testing carried out has indicated the possibility of replacing existing traditional systems with fiber optic technologies Extended integration testing has been conducted enabling future testing on engine. it is likely that engine testing will happen within the near term period. The engine test will demonstrate product maturity and have a great marketing value for Saab
Approach and implementation
Corona has continued during the period and has made it difficult for the parties to meet. Despite these difficulties, the teams have found a good collaboration ground throughout continuous meetings The work has continued according to the agreed work packages of which Saab developed the fiber optic sensor system based on the requirements picture and Rolls-Royce has integrated this with its control system for the demonstrator The development of the technical roadmap has taken place through a series of web-based workshops that contributed to a deeper understanding
