Purpose and goal
In this study, a fiber optic sensor system for continuous monitoring of high temperatures is developed. The goal is to develop an optical fiber with stability at these temperatures, an efficient manufacturing of the fiber optic sensor, and a sensor system that enables temperature monitoring up to 750°C for higher safety and more energy and resource efficient industrial processes.
Expected effects and result
It is often difficult to use conventional technologies in applications that require many measurement points, and fiber optics can enable significantly simplified installations and reduced weight/size of the sensors. The market for fiber optic sensors is predicted to increase significantly in the coming decade, especially in demanding environments. This project, if successful, will contribute to Swedish competitive solutions in the area.
Planned approach and implementation
The results from a Vinnova-funded feasibilty study is further developed, in cooperation between the project parties.
