Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is to evaluate aspects of the feasibility of building a pilot plant for fossil-free graphite production, a process that has potential to transform the industry towards net zero emissions. The goal is to analyze specific technical and commercial aspects required to produce CO₂-negative graphite with a focus on the steel industry. The project aims to deliver a decision basis for further investments which enables the preparation and construction of the pilot plant.
Expected effects and result
Through the feasibility study, we will gain knowledge about specific technical requirements, customer needs and resource needs for the construction of a pilot plant for fossil-free graphite. The study will identify potential for fossil-free graphite in the steel industry and provide a basis for decisions on the next step towards a pilot plant. Successful results are expected to strengthen Europe´s raw material resilience and contribute to climate goals.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is divided into work packages that include technical design, equipment analysis, customer needs survey for the steel industry, and resource planning. First, a technical design is developed for the production process, followed by an equipment evaluation. Interviews are then conducted to identify specific needs and quality requirements. Finally, a financing plan is drawn up as a decision-making basis for the pilot plant. Each part builds knowledge for an implementation decision.
