Important results from the project

The project aimed to create a standard for certification of architectural & urban design processes from program & detailed planning to construction, making it easier for organisations to implement equity goals from Swedish & international law, into urban design, architecture & the built environment. It´s based on equality, grounds for discrimination & human rights principles & is to be linked to municipal planning processes. We´ve fulfilled this & in addition, created four ‘FairShare’ tools.

Expected long term effects

There is a beta version of ‘FairShare’. To develop this to the target group, to reality & to map measurable criteria for social sustainability, full-scale tests are needed. Municipality & private interest, means pilot certifications will be implemented 2022. Education to develop competence in equality in architecture & urban design will be tested in connection with pilot certifications, to enable implementation, & with their inclusion approach, become examples for the New European Bauhaus.

Approach and implementation

The co-creative, innovative approach between partners who´ve developed ‘FairShare’, the participating municipalities & reference groups, was important to anchor the system in the urban planning process. The case testing of draft requirements was necessary but time consuming, as tools were required to be developed to help cases meet requirements. A pilot from the project will be certified, while other cases only tested parts of the system. Pilot certifications will be important in the future.
