Important results from the project

The purpose has been to carry out a verification project together with two treatment homes. This is to ensure that Eyescanner´s four measurement values work to be carried out digitally and that they can indicate that a person is under the influence of drugs or not. The purpose of the validation has also been to test different light conditions, eye colors, eye shapes, women and men. The project has been successful insofar as the parameters we wanted to investigate have been tested satisfactorily.

Expected long term effects

With help of collected data, we have developed algorithms that find, follow and measure the pupil of the eye. Through correlations in the data, we have distinguishing an unaffected eye from an affected eye. The amount of data is too small to draw any far-reaching conclusions about the accuracy, but the results show that the technology seems to work. The result has generated some improvement that will be adjusted in the next version, e.g. the need for good lighting conditions and some instructions. A clear effect of the project has been shown in the great interest of the automotive industry.

Approach and implementation

In collaboration with two treatment homes, we have collected 98 film sequences in the field of eyes. Of these, about 15 were under the influence of drugs of various substances. The number of drug addicts was lower than we had hoped for, but was still sufficient to move forward in development. The data has been analyzed by senior developers at Qamcom Research & Technology. By only looking at the pupil´s reactions, he has drawn valuable conclusions and developed useful algorithms that will in future be able to form the basis for further development of the software.
