Important results from the project
The overall objective is to ensure high quality and equal healthcare for patients by creating prerequisites for a national clincial network that enables a consistent and high quality diagnostics within pathology. The project objectives were: 1.Create a management model for diagnostic networks 2.Validate the model in a pilot network 3.Build support for financing a roll-out plan The project has met its objectives and roll-out plan has been submitted for decision for a national implementation.
Expected long term effects
The project results are: 1.A more efficient process for diagnostics within pathology which yields shorter lead times for patients and increased knowledge transfer 2.A management system that describes how a diagnostic network is managed 3.Documented experiences from a pilot network within pathology 4.A roll-out plan for national implementation A positive side-effect has been a closer collaboration between departments regarding implementation of digital pathology and standardization of practices.
Approach and implementation
The project has been managed by pathology departments, which has ensured focus on clinical need. The projects’ two phases has shown successful where the first phase defined a model for how the network is to be managed. In this phase academic institutions contributed with best practise. In the second phase, the pilot network, a joint management organisation was appointed and several additional pathology departments joined the network. The collaboration between the parties has been exemplar.
