Important results from the project
The purpose of the project has been to make it easier for companies to implement XR (Enabling Xr Creation In ThE inDustry). This has been achieved by increasing knowledge of the XR tools available. Some participating companies have created a vision for how XR can be used. The project developed: * a kit of exercises to help companies start creating a vision for XR * a showroom that provides an understanding of different types of XR technologies and their advantages and disadvantages * a checklist for how CAD files can be adapted and structured for conversion to 3D models for XR applications
Expected long term effects
Participating companies state that they have gained a greater understanding of different types of XR are available and when one should choose one or the other type and how XR can be used with them. There is also a digital XR showroom that both project participants and external parties can use to compare different types of XR. An XR vision kit has been developed, tested and made available. This kit can be used by companies to create a vision around the introduction of XR with them. The project also led to increased knowledge about how to simplify the process of creating efficient XR from CAD models.
Approach and implementation
The work has been carried out in three work packages: "Mapping and comparison of XR tools", "Methodology for XR vision" and "Customer competence". Mapping and comparison have formed the basis for work in the other work packages. Leaders of the various work packages have had regular meetings and worked together on the deliverables. Due to the pandemic, planned physical meetings and workshops have been replaced with project meetings in Teams as well as virtual workshops for the development of XR visions. Our assessment is that digital working methods have worked well in Excited.
