Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to further develop the laser-based analysis technique LIBS for metal sorting. One of the project goals was to demonstrate a prototype for scrap sorting in industrial environments, which was done in the newly established test bed at Swerim. The other project goal was to further develop Brazilian contacts, which have been carried out through follow-up meetings with previous project partners in aluminum recycling. New contacts with have also been established, and this has opened up for technology development projects also in the mining industry.
Expected long term effects
Demo video has been spread through social media (LinkedIn), at conferences, and in other customer meetings. That attention has led to new contacts with both commercialization actors and other research executives. Plans for continued projects will be presented on the "Swedish Brazilian Innovation Week" 27th of November 2018, where meetings with project partners are also planned.
Approach and implementation
The project is a collaboration between Swerim (formerly Swerea KIMAB), RISE Acreo, and Robotdalen. The robot gripping has been developed by Robotdalen, analysis software has been developed by Swerim, and enhancements to optical design have been developed by Rise Acreo. Demonstrator for combined analysis and robot pickup was conducted in the test bed at Swerim.
