Important results from the project

The objective of the SCALARE project was to support industries in scaling their capability as software moves from secondary consideration to primary importance in delivering innovation and competitive products. The project has contributed with a validated approach, i.e. the Scaling Management Framework and a supporting methodology, the ´Canvas´. These have been used, refined, and validated, in case studies. Lund University has been active in the development and the case studies.

Expected long term effects

The expectation was that the companies involved in the project would develop their capability to develop software and that the results would be disseminated outside the project. Several companies have improved their ability, both where software development was a new activity and where more specialized knowledge required, e.g. for open source and architecture. Lund University has contributed with knowledge in this. Lund University has spread results in several seminars with industry participants, mainly regional but also internationally.

Approach and implementation

We have developed a framework with dimensions of scaling and a template for conducting case studies. These have been used in the case studies, both to collect data to companies and to validate and iteratively enhance the framework. In this way, we have developed a model that now can be used by companies outside the consortium.
