Important results from the project
The project Celtic-Plus CONVINcE is about developing solutions to reduce the power consumption in IP-based video networks with an end-to-end approach, from the Head End where video contents are encoded and streamed, further to wide area network, edge cloud and finally to terminals where they are consumed, also embracing Content Delivery Networks (CDN). The targeted parameters are minimum end-to-end energy consumption combined with maximum possible Quality of Experience (QoE) obtained at end-user. The project goals have been reached, as indicated by the evaluation committee.
Expected long term effects
The goals of the project, as described in the Project Proposal, have been reached. A number of 41 Deliverable documents and 33 Milestone documents have been produced. These documents cover a number of 7 Work Packages. The project results have been presented and evaluated by the CELTIC-Plus evaluation committee at the project meeting held at Orange, Paris on September 21, 2017. The evaluation was very positive, with a recommendation that the project participants do continue their cooperation even after the end of the project, eventually under the umbrella of a new project.
Approach and implementation
The project Celtic-Plus CONVINcE has a number of 7 Work Packages dedicated to different elements of the video distribution system, as follows: WP1 - Architectures, power optimisation and business case; WP2 - Power saving in the Head End; WP3 - Power saving in the Network; WP4 - Power saving in the Terminal; WP5 - Tools and demonstrators; WP6 - Dissemination and exploitation; WP7 - Management. A number of 41 Deliverable documents and 33 Milestone documents have been produced. The project results have been accepted by the Celtic-Plus evaluation committee.
