Purpose and goal
Distributed Multiple Input, Multiple Output (DMIMO) is seen as one of the key approaches for 6G networks. DMIMO relies on densely deployed radioaccess points (APs) which opens the question how these APs themselves should be connected to the network – called fronthauling. This project aims to solve this question by developing a wideband wireless fronthaul solution based on a point to multipoint smart antenna array at D-Band.
Expected effects and result
This project will develop the key components of a complete sub-THz transmitter frontend including the antenna array and integrated circuits that are implementing a multi-channel transmitter frontend including phase shifters and power efficient amplifiers.
Planned approach and implementation
This sub-THz frequency band provides ample absolute bandwidth which will be required for the expected data rates, but poses technological challenges in terms of antenna frontend and transmitter electronics. With a diverse team in terms of expertise and a mix of academia Chalmers (efficient PA design) and industry Ericsson (system knowledge), Gotmic (mmW device modelling) and Gapwaves (low loss low cost mmW arrays) the ENTOURAGE team is well positioned to solve these challenges.
