Call Strengthened Swedish aeronautical research and innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

Purpose and goal

The purpose is to develop improved quality control for metal additive manufacturing with a focus on the materials Alloy 718 and/or Ti-6-4. The goal is to optimize the dynamic properties of products and ensure high precision in defect control through the use of AI and digital solutions. Thermal models and melt pool modeling will create robust methods to reduce waste, improve quality, and enable scalable production for advanced industries such as aerospace and medical technology, and beyond.

Expected effects and result

The project improves quality control in metal additive manufacturing, particularly for Alloy 718 and Ti-6-4. Through advanced digital solutions such as AI and thermal models, defects and production waste are reduced, leading to higher precision and optimized dynamic properties. The results will be demonstrated in industrial cases and contribute to scalable production, enhanced sustainability, and efficient resource utilization for advanced industries such as aerospace, medical technology, etc.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is structured into seven work packages (WP) to ensure efficient execution. WP1 defines qualification criteria for demonstrators. WP2 and WP3 focus on quality assurance of powder behavior and defect management during the process. WP4 develops thermal models for prediction. WP5 implements solutions for AM components in advanced alloys. WP6 verifies the effects of the solutions in demonstrators. WP7 is responsible for project coordination and dissemination of results.
