Important results from the project
A prestudy has been conducted by Interactive Institute Swedish ICT, Minetec, LKAB and CGM in order to explore possibilities of enhanced operator feedback at remote controlled rock breaking. Needs and challenges for the remote control of mining machines have been identified. Based on identified needs, multimodal interface concepts have been developed and evaluated in close collaboration with operators at LKAB in Kiruna.
Expected long term effects
An implementation of the developed concepts could simplify the operators´ work and make the remote rock breaking more efficient. It could also have positive effects on the control room working environment. A new consortium has been formed that will conduct a full-scale project starting in August 2015.
Approach and implementation
The project has been conducted through an iterative user-driven process in close collaboration with end-users at the remote controlled rock breaking at LKAB in Kiruna. Workshops, interviews, observations and questionnaires have been used to create an understanding of the operators´ work and to evaluate the developed concepts.
