Important results from the project
The objective project is to study and demonstrate how sensor data can be used for better coordinated decision support in a cloud-based solution for sharing traffic-critical information and to investigate legal aspects of such services. This has been accomplished by using and complementing the AD Aware Traffic Control platform. Support has been added for extended data collection from vehicle sensors and coordinated traffic management using information sharing based on standardized interfaces and formats. The legal investigation is summarized in a report.
Expected long term effects
The project has shown the benefit of using a cloud-based central management system to exchange strategic information between connected vehicles and assist rescue operations with situational awareness. A traffic environment where connected and self-driving vehicles interact, are monitored and guided by a central traffic management has great potential to save both human life, money and the environment.
Approach and implementation
The project has been integrated into the existing AD Aware Traffic Control traffic management system and its established infrastructure in the Drive Sweden’s Innovation Cloud. The parties have worked together to provide the traffic management system with the required data from the vehicle fleets and the sensor platforms. Among other things, vehicle cameras have been automatically activated and contributed to an improved situation in traffic accidents, both for emergency services and adjacent traffic. The services have been integrated into the AD/ADAS capabilities.
