Important results from the project
The project aims to test, evaluate and validate a concept for heating the mold for the manufacturing of specific plastic parts with high demands on the replication of structures. Tests have shown that the concept is viable, but further engineering efforts, and new tests have to be conducted before the concept can be promoted externally.
Expected long term effects
The results of the project show that the concept is viable and will most likely result in a commercially viable product. Partial results of the project show that there are details that require further investigation. More precisely, it was a part of the design that turned out not reach the requirements. And that it will require additional simulations and tests.
Approach and implementation
The project´s different phases consisted mainly of: 1. Analysis of existing physical limitations. 2. Calculations, simulations and construction. 3. Tests. 4. Analysis and Evaluation. Part 3 was the most critical and demanding (if not most time consuming) part. After simulations based on the results of Phase 1 was constructed as a test system in order to prove the concept´s viability. The project has followed the original plan except for the difference due to failure of part of the test equipment.
