Important results from the project
We have contributed in this project with guidelines and requirements for spectral- efficient modulation in tranceivers for next generation systems. More specifically, these are energy consumption estimates of next-generation transceivers for short and long reach transmission systems to enable energy-efficient designs and implementations, as well as digital algorithms and sub-system solutions to meet future requirements on increased capacity and energy efficiency.
Expected long term effects
We have produced concrete results regarding the effect of tunable laser transmitters on transmission systems, shown how to implement more energy-efficient receivers, and how to optimize power consumption in optical networks and in optical interconnects. This is expected to contribute to increased competitiveness for the participating companies.
Approach and implementation
The project contained three work packages: work management, tranceivers with increased capacity, and energy efficiency. A full-day workshop was held in 2018 at Infinera and in 2019 at Infinera. Staff for the companies have also visited Chalmers on several occasions.
