Important results from the project

The goal of the project has been to do a market research and to research sensor koncepts. A thorough market research have been done by getting data regarding existing plants and information from Sandvik, ABB and mould builders. Eight sensor koncepts have been envisioned during the project whereof three has been studied further. The studies have been conducted by using COMSOL simulations and practical tests at Agellis and ABB.

Expected long term effects

The market report has shown that there is a large market for the product. The sensor concept studies have found that two sensors have the potential to be developed into products. The project has given Agellis a very good knowledge of the market for sensors in billet moulds. The understanding of the different sensor concepts have been greatly increased thanks to the possibility to simulate the sensors.

Approach and implementation

The information for the market report has been gathered from a data base that was bought for the project, by information exchange between the project partners and from external mould builders. The sensor concepts have mainly been developed by Agellis and Chalmers. ABB and Sandvik have been important partners since they hold valuable knowledge about how a sensor can be placed in the mould in order for an product to be accepted by the market. The market research part and the sensor concept part of the project have exchanged information during the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
