Important results from the project
In the ELMOB project, multiple stakeholders have cooperated to test and demonstrate shared mobility solutions, based on electrically powered vehicles, in order to achieve a sustainable travel system for greater city areas in general, and for Gothenburg in particular. A variety of mobility solutions have been demonstrated: weather and theft protected e-bike pools, electric cargo bikes for residential areas with few cars, electric four wheel bikes for passenger transport and goods distribution, electric car pools, electric taxis with long range and electric bus system studies.
Expected long term effects
In general, it has been harder to develop and establish the demonstrations than anticipated. This has lead to limited possibilities to evaluate the mobility solutions. Nevertheless, several solutions have managed to attain public interest in their potential to support sustainable mobility, when upscaled. In addition to the real life demonstrations the traffic administration of Gothenburg has developed a guide for public and private partners, describing what kind of actions can and should be taken to promote electric vehicles and shared mobility solutions in the city.
Approach and implementation
The project work has been divided in several work packages, each focusing on realizing a specific mobility solution. User analysis, data collection and project communication have been delaty with in separate work packages. The project underestimated the many difficulties in establishing the various real life demonstrations in time. This has affected the possibilities to do extensive user analysis, long term data collection and learning and knowledge sharing. On the other hand, awareness of these difficulties will help when planning future cooperative projects in the city.
