Important results from the project

Electrification of construction machinery and transports is crucial for climate goals but the transition is challenging and can increase costs. Successful transition requires high utilization of vehicles and machinery, improved planning, and information sharing. EleVATE highlights the importance of actor collaboration and identifies four research areas: policy & planning, charging infrastructure, energy planning, and data sharing.

Expected long term effects

Long-term effects include the need for strategic coordination between municipalities and energy providers to ensure grid capacity and charging infrastructure. Construction project plans affect vehicle suppliers and contractors, potentially increasing the production of electric vehicles. Collaboration between municipalities and contractors is crucial and new business models and planning support for charging and load balancing are required. Improved collaboration and planning are essential.

Approach and implementation

The project employed an exploratory research design with a literature review and workshops to identify future research directions. The research process was divided into four steps: literature review, grey literature, structured literature review, and workshops. A total of four workshops were conducted (three physical and one online). During the workshops, the results from the literature reviews and previous workshops were refined through discussions with the participants.
