Important results from the project
The purpose of AMASS was to create an open tool platform for assurance and certification of technical systems that interact with the physical world (eg, vehicles) that can help reduce the cost of certification of such systems. Rise part of the project was above all a case study where a component for which both functional safety and cybersecurity are critical quality attributes was developed, and where AMASS tools were used to build up a so-called assurance case that shows that these properties are fulfilled.
Expected long term effects
AMASS has resulted in further development of the open source tools OpenCert and CHESS as well as related tools (both open and commercial) that can interoperate with these. Methods for using the tools have also been included. About 80 scientific articles have been published within the project. Rise has conducted a case study where a positioning unit for e.g. automated vehicles has been analyzed. Two articles containing results from the case study have been published. Expected long-term effects are more effective work on assurance and certification of complex systems.
Approach and implementation
The project was divided into a number of work packages: case studies within different domains as well as the technical packages architecture-driven and multi-concern assurance, interoperability, and reuse between domains. The technical work packages developed methodology and implemented, while the case studies validated and gave feedback to the development of the tools. Rise did a case study that focused on multi-concern assurance and participated in the method development in the technical work package for this aspect.
