Project duration March 2023 - March 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Eurostars

Purpose and goal

The project aims to (1) provide the wind industry with new products for accurate quantification of wind conditions prior to construction and (2) enable major productivity improvements in existing wind farms regarding operation and maintenance, integration of wind power into the electricity grid, trading and balancing of wind power. This will be achieved through a new partnership between a remote sensing instrument manufacturer and another SME providing ensemble-based meteorological simulations, support by university inventions and validations.

Expected effects and result

The new partnership of the project will lead to substantially extended business opportunities for both AQSystem and WEPROG in a market of strong growth. The proposed products reduce both cost and time-to-market for new and existing wind farms, which is essential in order to move towards a carbon-free energy system. With the project partnership, the two SMEs will "swap markets" and adapt the new products to the need of the respective markets.

Planned approach and implementation

AQSystem implements new innovations provided by Uppsala University and DTU, and to supply instruments and data for all validations. AQS is also the project leader. WEPROG and University of Uppsala are working on developing new tools and algorithms for more optimal use of SODAR data in the forecasting processes and adaptation of WEPROG´s multi-scheme ensemble prediction system (MSEPS) to work seamless with the SODAR, both for current and forecasted data. DTU´s task in the project is, setting up advanced measurement campaigns for the comparison and analysis of the results.
