Important results from the project
In the main, we have fulfilled the objectives. Together with our project partner, we have developed AI-driven software to identify and perform volumetry on intracerebral tumors. The software is now in the process for CE marking and will hopefully be implemented in clinical operation in 2025.
Expected long term effects
Our hope is to both increase the precision of measurements and reduce the burden on neuroradiologists who review these examinations. Brain tumors are often followed with MRI every three months and these examinations are then reviewed by neuroradiologists. Measurement is often only done in two directions but volumes are more interesting but in principle it takes too long to make up manually. Now we will both get volumes presented, which will mean that neuroradiologists can help more patients.
Approach and implementation
We have followed the timetable and the work packages we defined. The collaboration has flowed well with both digital meetings and physical meetings to ensure that all parts followed the schedule. An external factor for Karolinska has been a high clinical load, which put the group under relatively high pressure, but which has been managed.
