Important results from the project
In the project, Spectronic Medical, together with the University Hospital of Vienna and the University Hospital of Geneva, has developed a unique AI driven platform to deliver high-quality photon and proton radiation therapy for cancer treatment. The technology enables completely MRI-based radiation dose planning in the brain, head-neck and pelvic regions. The developed technology provides increased treatment precision with fewer radiation-related side effects, as well as more cost-effective treatment planning due to more efficient imaging and automated organ contouring.
Expected long term effects
The developed technology is now complete and has been verified in several clinical studies, with very good results. The first installations have been performed and the integration with the clinical environment works very well. The technology is CE marked and is now used for patient treatment at several European hospitals. An application for clinical approval in the United States has been submitted.
Approach and implementation
Within the project, the parties have worked together, with specific responsibilities for different work packages. Spectronic Medical has primarily focused on algorithm and product development, while the hospital partners have focused on clinical aspects of using the technology. The work has been carried out under the supervision of the project´s management team, consisting of persons from all project parties. Overall, the project has been very successful and all major objectives for the project have been achieved.
