Important results from the project
The project aimed to streamline nano-manufacturing processes and an associated IoT blockchain system. The goal was to develop a system for the mass creation of nanostructures on plastic and metal components. The structures are used to integrate security information on the components and through blockchain-based technology, the identity and authenticity can be guaranteed for the marked components. By integrating the identity marking in the components instead of, for example, on the packaging, the level of security is significantly increased compared to many other solutions.
Expected long term effects
The project has achieved progress in diffractive optics design and the pre-use of Smartprint for three-dimensional steel surfaces. The approach of using micro abrasive blasting for the creation of nano structures proved to be insufficient for the requirements. Silicone injection molding of structures and protective coatings for thermoplastics has also been successfully tested. The technology can be integrated into blockchain-based authentication systems for supply chain security.
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried out by partners with specific expertise in complementary areas linked to both material processing, nano-structures and IoT solutions. Cooperation has worked very well and the project´s participants have been able to get a great return from the other partners. The mix of large research actors together with less specialized SMEs has been rewarding on both sides and created deepened relationships that will be valuable even after the end of the project.
