Important results from the project
In order to better plan and manage bus and car traffic in major cities, dynamic models are required that can model congestion, delays and the interaction between bus and car traffic, something the current static models do not handle properly. Such a dynamic model was developed in the DYMOBUS 1 project, and will in this project be extended with time-dependent route-choice, capable of time-dynamic time-table planning, including the effects of congestion on regularity and passengers route choice, as well as the influence of information both pre-trip and en-route.
Expected long term effects
Tools to study: -disturbances of car-traffic on bus-traffic -effects of bus-lanes on long and short stretches -mixed bus- and car-traffic in signalized intersections -buspriority in signals -improved planning of bus-timetables -improved information on bus-stop arrival times
Approach and implementation
The project is carried out in the following stages: 1. Literature review, especially methods for route choice and route choice set generation for passengers, as well as adaptive decision making (Technion) 2. Development of a comprehensive framwork for a dynamic transit assignment model including passengers´ OD flows, route hoices, boarding and alighting processes as well as adaptive decision making with regard to real-time information and delay (CTR+Technion) 3. Development of methods for passengers´ adaptive route choice and dynamic choice sets. Estimation with data from passenger survey (CTR+Technion) 4. Development of modeling detailed interaction between cars and buses, especially in intersections and at bus stops (CTR) 5. Devlepment of modelleing of metro and commuter trains. Primarily from a bus-modeling perspective (arrival processes of passengers to transfer busstops etc. (CTR) 6. Calibration and validation of the model on Swedish and Israel data (CTR+Technion) 7. Reporting in the form of doctoral thesis, conferences, journal publications, seminars
