Purpose and goal
This project aims to increase the technical competence in the dynamic force metrology area at the Swedish National Metrology Institute (NMI) by development of methodology for impulse force measurements. The goal is to develop a calibration device for impact hammers and then using them as references for dynamic calibration of force sensors.
Expected effects and result
Implementation of the project will enable the NMI to expand its measurement capabilities by services that better reflect real applications and conditions. The service will also be possible to offer on-site. The main effect of this project is that it will improve the reliability of force measurements in Swedish industry and thereby strengthen Swedish competitiveness within, for example, the vehicle safety area.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will begin with a detailed study of the possible scope of use of impact hammers and designing the calibration device. After the construction of the calibration device, series of tests and investigations will be conducted using selected force sensors. This will be followed by comprehensive evaluation of the results and the development of a new calibration method. The method will be verified by performing comparison measurements.
