Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to develop a method to offer the aerospace industry more durable composite tools for the production of composite components. There is, however no barrier to the technology being used in other industries to streamline and reduce the costs associated with composite tools.
Expected long term effects
The project has shown that it is quite possible, through powder coating, to improve the surfaces of composite tools and make this sort of tooling more attractive for use in manufacturing of composite components. The project has evaluated different powder coatings to assess which ones are suitable for use in the application.
Approach and implementation
In the project, an evaluation of three types of powder coatings selected by the project group from a number of candidates has been made. These coatings have been used on four types of substrates. These substrates have been analyzed and data has been used as input for the production of a demonstrator to demonstrate the potential of the method.
