Important results from the project
The project was initiated in order to meet Sweden´s goal to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from road transport, reduce congestion, and improve the ability of co-modality. In this project, field tests on the route Gothenburg - Malmö conducted to test the combination ´double trailer´ (tractor-semitrailer-dolly-semitrailer).
Expected long term effects
The overall project objective was to reduce CO2 emissions on m3km by 15% and during the first testing period reached savings of 27% compared to a standard European vehicles. Increased driver-/vehicle efficiency, up to 40% more m3km per driver / vehicle, the project has shown that it is technically possible to carry two trailers for a tractor which easily meets the target. Behaviour of the vehicle on the road has been logged by the electronics and even here has found no indications that the vehicle would be an greater traffic hazard than other vehicles, rather the opposite.
Approach and implementation
Vehicle combinations ´dubbeltrailer´och´ dubbelkärra´ has been designed by the project and the route Gothenburg - Malmö was chosen because this was an interesting topography with Hallandsas and enough cargo to carry out a realistic long test of time as the project done. Due to delayin the project has not the combination ´duokärra´ been tested in the project.
