Important results from the project
The purpose of DREAMIT 2.0 is to investigate how effective access management can reduce turnaround times for trucks and trains in port terminals through an automated exchange of relevant information. Relevant information has been exchanged, but it is also required that the actors involved act on the relevant information in order to achieve effective access management and in turn reduce turnaround times. In addition, it is also required that added value is created for all actors involved in order to achieve effective access management.
Expected long term effects
Within DREAMIT 2.0, information exchange methods have been explored and developed to exchange relevant information between actors involved. Additionally, business models have been developed to create value for all actors involved. Finally, measurements and evaluations have been conducted how (1) a Bluetooth beacon system can measure turnaround times in detail, (2) resources and activities can be utilised effectively, (3) the automated gate system can reduce turnaround times by 17%, and (4) how the establishment of truck appointment systems differ in Sweden and in Europe.
Approach and implementation
DREAMIT 2.0 was performed by nine parties from academia and industry. The data collection mainly consisted of qualitative research methods such as observations, interviews and workshops. Quantitative methods were done as measurements of trucks´ turnaround times in the terminal. DREAMIT 2.0 also got access to a large dataset of turnaround times from the terminal to evaluate the newly installed automated gate system. The data collection has resulted in six scientific articles that have been presented at three international conferences. The project was completed in April 2024.
