Important results from the project

During the project we have been able to meet the objectives of both developing a large-scale mechanized production system of SeedPAD as well as to verify the functionality of these machine-produced units in nationwide field trials. Almost one million machine produced SeedPAD units have been laid out and the germination results remains stable above 69%. We have also developed a packaging system and a new effective manual tool with a capacity of 4000- 8000 units/ day. We can therefore say that we now have the first complete manual SeedPAD system ready for market launch.

Expected long term effects

The outcome of the project has exceeded expectations. We have been able to rapidly develop a large-scale production of mechanically produced SeedPAD units. We have verified the functionality of the machine-produced units in large-scale field trials and we have developed a packaging system and a manual tool with a very high capacity. Overall, we have now laid the groundwork for a broad market launch of a new cost-effective and rapid regeneration system for pine.

Approach and implementation

The project´s overall objective to develop a new regeneration system for pine is an extremely ambitious goal that is highly dependent on the skills of experts from a variety of disciplines. The good cooperation we have had with our production partners in Germany and with Sveaskog and other forest companies and consultants for tools development has been the key success factor. An additional success factor has been to find the right key personnel with core competencies and great dedication to the project.
