Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to develop ideas for projects that links the information that is developed during design and construction of road infrastructure with the information that is used in support of automated road transport. It turned out that the information generated in the design and construction of infrastructure cannot be used in support of automation due deficiencies in the information and in harmonization. Hence the project developed a series of proposals for projects aiming at strengthening digitalization of infrastructure development.

Expected long term effects

The project has as planned presented an analysis of information management related to planning and execution of infrastructure development and project proposals for implementation in SIP InfraSweden 2030. According to the original plan these projects should be guided towards developing connections between infrastructure development and automated road transport. This has been studied in the project but the remaining proposal is focused on projects aiming at developing information management in infrastructure projects.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out through work shops, discussions and meetings with relevant actors. During the project it has become clear that the original idea to find interested parties within SIP Drive Sweden in order to make use of data from the infrastructure design phase in road transport automation (e.g. through digital maps) was misguided. Hence the project has to a greater extent than planned had focus on BIM with associated models and actors active in the infrastructure design and construction phases. The gap towards use in automation is too big in the nearest time.
