Important results from the project
The project successfully met its goals to identify current modelling capabilities in the area of metal powder production by gas atomisation, spread this knowledge between the project partners, identify where future research was needed and form a consortium to carry out this development. The main output was a series of technical reports shared within the project consortium with the current capabilities and proposals for future development, as well as information about capabilities and topics of interest from industrial partners provided by online questionnaire.
Expected long term effects
The reports delivered in this project identified what modelling techniques seem most promising based on current knowledge and theoretical basis. They also proposed how the models could be developed. The expected effect of the project will be continued collaboration between some or all of the project partners and a funding application being submitted to continue the development of the models in the same funding programme in the near future.
Approach and implementation
The division of the gas atomisation process into the work packages proved to be effective and suitable, since the physical processes in each stage are different and require different types of models to give good results. The division of work within the consortium was also appropriate, since two partners divided the most intensive work package and the other packages was manageable with one partner doing most of the work. This organisation shall form the basis of next funding proposal.
