Important results from the project
The objective was to describe key stakeholder´s needs and opportunities, formulate long-term goals for Sweden and suggest actions to reach the goal. The agenda contains descriptions of additive manufacturing in Sweden and internationally, opportunities and needs for Sweden in different areas as well as actions necessary for the future. The suggestions are relatively broad, since additive manufacturing/3D printing is a fast growing area and at this stage, the freedom of action for Sweden in general, is a good thing.
Expected long term effects
The work suggests actions in four main areas: 1. Co-operation, nationally and international. 2. Test-beds and national centers of competence. 3. Development of competence and education on every level from school to universities, as well as e-education for designers and engineers. 4. Research and innovation within areas as material, process development, design, production techniques, environment and business models. Expected effects are, among other, a raised level of understanding for additive manufacturing and a national focus in the area.
Approach and implementation
The work has been characterized by an openness that has led to the involvement of a large number of stakeholders. Stakeholders that have participated in the work on an equal basis. Representatives from the industry who are used to relatively fast processes have praised the chosen process. There were four big meetings for everyone and about 20 meetings for the smaller working group. The working group was put together of representatives from academia, research institutes, one SME and one large company. It has consisted of 3 women and 3 men.
