Important results from the project
To summarize, IEK3 (Institute of Energy and Climate Research Process Engineering Electrolysis) at FZ Jülich gave me a nice welcome and I concluded that FZ Jülich is a very suitable organization to visit to perform a 3-year VINNMER project. As a research institute, the fuel cell research is performed in strong collaboration with (mostly German) industry, for example Airbus, Mercedes Benz, Opel, ErlingKlinger, BMW and ThyssenKrupp.
Expected long term effects
As a result of the visit at FZ Jülich, an original research topic for a 3-year visit was recognized, e.g., multi-phase flows and interactions inside PEMFCs and PEM-electrolysers, which will be numerically investigated (with the software Open Foam) to increase the scientific understanding beyond the current state-of-the-art. The calculations will be coupled to experiments performed at FZ Jülich. As a consequence of Andersson´s planned stay at FZ Jülich also his PhD students are invited to visit the research center to collaborate and discuss their research with experts of the field.
Approach and implementation
Docent Martin Andersson visied reserach center Jülich (FZ Jülich) between November 24th-28th 2014. His visit focused on discussions with different researchers, which would be interested in collaboration during a VINNMER project. The host was professor Steven Beale, but research possibilities was also discussed with director Detlef Stolten, professor Werner Lehnert, professor Andrei Kulikovsky, professor Dieter Froning, professor Ludger Blum, Dr Uwe Raimer, Dr David Fritz, as well as with various PhD students.
