Important results from the project

RespiHeart is a new method for wireless recording of respiration and heart function by optical measurement of the blood flow in the sternum bone. As a development step in moving RespiHeart, from a validated research prototype to a CE marked medical device, the purpose of project has been to define the technological and commercial platform. The two project objectives have been accomplished: development of a business plan and the technical requirements specification.

Expected long term effects

The two key deliveries from the project, set the baseline for the continuous development of RespiHeart. The business plan defines market needs, key segments, market offering, sales strategy and commercial objectives. The technical requirements specification defines the product demands regarding e.g. clinical performance, functional requirements, user interface and communication methods, for the sensor unit as well as the stand-alone software. This set the foundation for the next step product development, reaching a final prototype.

Approach and implementation

The project has encompassed three main activities: (1) identification of clinical product demands, (2) mapping of commercial prerequisites, and (3) development of the technical requirements specification. The process has been performed in close collaboration with clinical personnel, medtech expertise, health care professionals, leaders and decision-makers, purchasing departments and industry competence. Regualtory and technological expertise, as well as competence related to system development and IP, has also been closely linked to the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
