Important results from the project

The project achieved the planned results but it reveled more challenges in the circular economy and policy instruments in the construction sector than expected. Due to budget constraints, the project was limited to 3 focus areas. It has contributed new knowledge on promoting on-site reuse. A systematic review of the use value principle, the maintenance plan and economic instruments is needed to increase reuse, reduce climate impact and strengthen resource efficiency in the construction sector.

Expected long term effects

On-site recycling has potential to provide significant long-term effects by contributing to increased circularity, reduced resource extraction and economic savings. A long-term effect is that increased on-site recycling becomes a cost-effective solution and contributes to lower waste management costs and reduced material purchases.

Approach and implementation

The project contained 6 different work packages that included project management, desk study, formation of an external reference group, Design of policies and instruments for on-site reuse/problem definition, Analysis and formulation of proposals, and Communication and dissemination. We had 3 meetings with the external reference group. It provided valuable insights from experts in the construction and real estate sector. We had 3 workshops with experts and industry partners.
