Important results from the project
The Airec heat exchangers have potential to reduce energy consumption and costs in cryogenic systems up to 50%. The project objective was to develop such heat exchanger, focusing on applications with asymmetric flows. The development of such heat exchanger started during the second half of 2018 but the project was lair down due to organizational (not technical) reasons.
Expected long term effects
Airec heat exchanger technology has the potential to reduce energy consumption and costs in cryogenic systems up to 50%. However, such heat exchanger will not be developed as planned in the project. Therefore the effects will not be possible to reflect in savings in research center installations.
Approach and implementation
The main challenge was to fulfill pressure and thermal requirements, as well as keeping the low pressure drop needed in the heat exchanger. The design was OK but in practice it was not possible to complete the work with functional prototypes.
