Important results from the project
The number of people suffering from diabetes is growing and is forecasted to exceed 500 M worldwide in 2018. A glucose test is still today not convenient, accessible or even inexpensive and is highly invasive using metal needles. Recent developments in blood sugar detection using millimeter-waves by Ascilion AB, lead to this Vinnova project. The aim of the project was to develop the front-end circuitry around new glucose sensors using millimeter-waves. The successful demonstration performed in the project opens up new perspectives towards miniaturization and commercialization.
Expected long term effects
This project demonstrates the potential of glucose sensors using mm-waves. The front-end implementation opens up new perspectives towards miniaturization and commercialization. In the project, publishable results have been obtained. These results will be published in a number of publications after termination of the project.
Approach and implementation
The project involved two partners: Uppsala University (UU) and Ascilion AB. It was coordinated by Dr. Dragos Dancila, researcher in Prof. Anders Rydberg´s Microwave group. The strong collaboration between UU and Ascilion has facilitated the knowledge transfer from the research institution to the company. The successful demonstration performed in the project opens up new perspectives towards miniaturization and commercialization.
