Important results from the project
The goals of the project were: 1. Implementation of the new midranging control method in ABB´s control system. 2. Contact with process industries to identify test process sections to evaluate the new method. 3. Field tests in the process industry. 4. Evaluation of the test results and to determine if the ideas hold. 5. Provided that the evaluation gives a positive result, a final implementation is made in ABB´s control system. 6. Planning for dissemination of results and upcoming FUI applications. All points except the third are completed and the third will be implemented shortly.
Expected long term effects
We have developed a new efficient method for midrange control that lacks the shortcomings that current methods have. The new method is implemented in ABB´s control system and tested in simulation environment with good results. The new method allows for improved product quality and reduced energy consumption in the process industries where it is used.
Approach and implementation
The collaboration between Lund University and ABB has worked very well. The short geographical distance has enabled frequent meetings and close collaboration. Hopefully, this collaboration will continue in future projects.
