Important results from the project
The goal of this project was to develope a model that can map the product characteristics, their variation and related design and process parameters to control quality in all steps of a fabrication sequence. This model includes best practice results from production, physical tests and simulations.Using this model will make it possible to make predictions of production deficiencies based on product design solutions.
Expected long term effects
This project have integrated multidisciplinary knowledge into a methodology that has generated results that serve different stakeholders in industry and academia. The results are technology oriented, putting advanced knowledge into a methodology that can be used in a systematic way. New skills and new research topics have also been developed and identified. The close cooperation between industry and academia have strengthen both parts and created a strong knowledge base for future aerospace research.
Approach and implementation
The project have been executed in cooperation between one PhD student, their supervisors at the department of Industrial and Material Science at Chalmers University of technology together with the R&D research team at GKN Aerospace. The PhD student have spent a large amount of time at the company to perform studies related to her research.
