Important results from the project

By getting permission to follow the jury´s work, the research group has gained detailed insight into and knowledge of how evaluation processes take place. Even the participation of the expert participants in the jury work can be a great advantage when in doubt about how the proposed solutions should be interpreted and understood. The jury´s consensus-building and stabilization of the assessment of competition proposals is not given in advance but requires active cooperation in the jury´s work.

Expected long term effects

The project provides the basis for business strategies that can facilitate municipal policies on climate adaptation. Partnerships can become extremely essential for Sweden´s opportunities to reach national and international goals. But they also have a national perspective, which is why more coordinated collaboration on competitions can strengthen the national transition. This includes a series of national associations such as for example Architects Sweden and Swedish Construction Federation.

Approach and implementation

The project carried out two design built competitions for climate-adapted housing. They were carried out with Norrköping municipality, which provided two plots, and managed the process. Together with the research team, the municipality designed the competition program, goals and assessment criteria. Multidisciplinary design teams with expertise in architecture, engineering, construction, materials and management, submitted proposals. The jury evaluated the proposals and recommended two winners
